Twenty-two pound puppies at the Troy Animal Shelter will be available for adoption on Saturday, Jan. 9.

And, if puppies could talk, they would probably say how much they would like to go to a warm home with a loving family. But since animals can’t talk, someone has to do it for them.

“These are the cutest puppies you have ever seen and, with the extremely cold weather we are having, it would be so wonderful for them to have a home to go to,” said Donna Schubert, chair of the Troy Animal Shelter Coalition/Pike Animal Shelter’s Founders Society. “All of these puppies would make great pets and we would certainly like to get them out of the shelter due to the weather.”

In response to the need, the Troy Animal Shelter Coalition decided to hold an adoption event from 9:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Tractor Supply Store at the old Goody’s location at Southland Village Shopping Center in Troy.

The adoption event will be held indoors and out of the cold for the comfort of the puppies and their potential adoptive families.

“All 22 puppies are mixed breeds,” said Su Green, adoption program chair. “Ten of the puppies are from one litter and seven from another. The others are from one and two litters. They are all about eight weeks old so they aren’t of age for vaccinations. Anyone who adopts one of the puppies will be asked to sign a contract agreeing to have their puppy spayed or neutered when it becomes of age. Vaccinations will be at the recommendation of a veterinarian.”

Those who are considering bringing a puppy into their home are encourage to attend Puppy Palooza on Saturday and take home their pick of the litter.

Adult dogs are also available for adoption from the Troy Animal Shelter.
