Pike County will look to pick up its first win in area play tonight when it takes on Abbeville at home.

PCHS head coach William Moguel said his team is expecting a plenty of pressure from the Abbeville defense in an effort to disrupt Pike County’s offensive rhythm.

“Just from knowing Coach Moses Knight, I know they’re going to bring a very pressure-oriented defense,” Moguel said. “They are going to be in your face for four quarters, no matter what.”

Pike County committed 30 turnovers in a 79-54 loss to Pensacola in the first round of the Dothan Eagle/Dothan Progress Holiday Prep Classic back on Dec. 26.

However, since then, Moguel said the team has done a better job of taking care of the basketball.

“That experience really did help us out,” Moguel said. “It has really shown our kids how to be patient with the basketball. We’re doing a much better job of taking our time now.”

PCHS is coming off of a 51-42 loss to Headland in the area play opener back on Jan. 5.

“We played well for three quarters, and we were in the game,” Moguel said. “We had a chance to won but we missed some free throws down the stretch. From hearing people talk, we weren’t even supposed to be in the game, but our kids played that up and they came out and played well.”

The varsity boys’ game will be the final game of the day today in Brundidge, with the junior varsity boys tipping off at 4:30 and the varsity girls following that.
