The Colley Senior Complex is gearing up for the New Year and everyone is invited to be a part of the activities, events and festivities.

Glenda Fayson, Complex office manager, said the Complex is continuing with the activities and events that are the mainstay of the on-going programs for seniors but is also adding some new wrinkles to add a little variety and spic to the offerings.

“New this year will be another advanced computer class, a beginners Spanish class and a beginners line dance class,” Fayson said. “We are also adding an aerobics class taught by Lee Stephens. We’ve got several trips planned including a very special one on May 2 to Birmingham to see Aretha Franklin.”

Some of the trips have been planned and others will be offered as the opportunity arises.

“We are always looking for new and interesting things for our seniors to see and do,” Fayson said. “But we are also continuing with the programs that have been successful for us in the past.”

The Colley Senior Complex offers a wide variety of activities and something for just about every interest. The list of programs and classes includes quilting, crochet, smocking, painting, ceramics, pottery, stained glass, bridge, yoga, exercise, clogging, line dancing, aerobics, stretching and a variety of mind muscle classes from chess to computer.

“There are also opportunities for those who enjoy singing,” Fayson said. “The Barbershop Quartet meets twice a week – on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday nights. The Jubilee Chorus meets on Thursdays and the senior choir meets on Wednesday and Friday mornings.”

Those who enjoy social dancing save every Saturday night for the popular Saturday Night Dance.

“We’ll get the dances off to a big start with the New Year’s Dance on Jan. 2 and everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish and dress up if they would like to,” Fayson said.

“This will be the first of several holiday themed dances but each dance has something special. On January 23, we’ll have a 1950s Sock Hop with a covered dish supper. The dances are from 7 until 10 p.m. and we invite all seniors 55 and over to come and enjoy the fun.”

In February, the Colley Senior Complex is planning a huge yard sale to benefit the Complex.

“There’s always something going on at the Colley Senior Complex,” Fayson said.

“We have a lot do, things to see and places to go. The programs offered through the Complex are free. However, each person is responsible for cost of the trips. But everything offers fun and fellowship. Some people say they don’t know about things we do so we invite everybody to stop by the Colley Senior Complex on Elm Street and see what all we have to offer.”
