Retired Major Jerry Wayne Giles, age 71 of Troy died Monday, December 21, 2009 in a Montgomery hospital.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 3:30 pm from the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with Reverend Marvin Vickers officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy Directing.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Giles served 23 years in the United States Air force, was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and a recipient of the Bronze Starr. He was an avid hunter, a big fan of both Auburn University and Troy University. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Glenell Synco Giles of Troy, daughters Jennifer Giles of Troy and Heather Giles (Scott) Westfall, his grandchildren Savannah Jane Giles, and Jackson Giles, a sister Brenda (Gene) Watson of Houston, mother-in-law Nell Whitman of Troy, cousin Thomas (Barb) Giles of Gulf Shores, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Charles and Barbara Synco, and Thomas and Edith Synco, nieces and nephews Brantley and Tracee Synco, Laurie Synco, Daniel Synco, Libby and Zach Morgan, great niece Clancee Synco.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Deloris Giles, his father-in-law Walt Whitman, and a special aunt Deedee Nichols.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be John Curry Key, Reid Howard, Scott Westfall, Sam Hope, Skip Hope, James Carlson, Gene Watson, Daniel Synco, and Brantley Synco.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to your favorite charity.
