Christmas is here, hard to believe, isn’t it?

I am sure most of you have lists of what you would like to see under the tree on the morning of the 25th.

Well, like everyone else, Troy University’s sports have a Christmas list of things it would like.

By all accounts, it looks like all the Trojans have been good this year so lets see what’s on the lists.

Before I go into what each of the major sports here specifically asked for, I should go ahead and say there was one gift all the sports collectively asked for – fan support.

To have all of Troy’s collective sports arenas filled with fans from top to bottom would be a dream come true.

And besides, cardinal is a much better looking color than say orange and crimson anyways.

Having fans in the stands not only makes the individual teams play better, but also supports the University itself – plus its fun. Everyone wins!

Now, for some of the highlights from some of the individual sports themselves.

The football team would, obviously, like a win in the GMAC Bowl.

Another win on national television against a ranked opponent may just be enough for the team to get the attention it deserves in the state and in the county alike.

A strong recruiting class and more money coming into the program are two other things on the football’s wish list.

Both will keep the program strong for the for the foreseeable future which is not only good for the program itself, but for the fans – its the kind of present that keeps on giving.

Christmas came early for the basketball teams this year when it was announced the University would be getting a new arena.

And what a present it is…kind of.

This is like getting a Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and a Wii all in one, of course, the only draw back is the teams won’t be able to play in it for a two more seasons – but still when it finally opens, it will be worth the wait.

The second gift the basketball team has on its list is to endure the kind of success the football has each season.

This is a present that is not that far out of reach either, especially compared to a few seasons ago.

It has been over five years since the mens’ team was a part of either the NCAA tournament or the NIT and even longer for the womens’ team – securing a bid to either would be nice presents to decorate the new arena with.

As for the baseball team, it would like nothing more than to get back to the way things used to be.

Remember, Troy is just three seasons removed from winning the Sun Belt conference and coming within one game of winning a Regional division in the college baseball World Series.

Pitching has been a problem the past couple of seasons for the Trojans and to sure the rotation up just might be what helps the team back to the top of the conference.

Now, all these team might not get everything on their respective lists – very often does that ever happen, and what a shame it is.

But having said that, each of these teams are close to obtaining each one of these “gifts.”

And with hopefully being the case, both the teams and the fans a like will be able to enjoy a lot in near future – or at least until next Christmas, when new lists are written.
