The past three games have not been good for the Charles Henderson Trojans.

After dropping to Jeff Davis and Barbour County, the Trojans took the court on Monday night looking to taste victory.

However, after the final buzzer rang in Enterprise, the Trojans had the bitter taste of defeat in their mouths, again, as CHHS lost to Enterprise on the road, 56-49.

“We gave it away,” head coach Carl Hollis said after the game.

“We had them all the up to the fourth quarter – got tired and fell by the waist side.”

The loss drops the Trojans under .500 for the first time this season with a 4-5 overall record.

“We should have won this ball game,” Hollis said.

“It was tight all the way through but we couldn’t finish.”

A big part of the Trojans loss was the play of Enterprise player Rhett Harrison, who finished the game with 22 points, 19 of which came from free throws in the fourth quarter.

“That really hurt us,” Hollis said of Harrison’s play against the Trojans.

“We played with a lot of great intensity the first two quarters, but when it came down to the end of the game, we got tired.”

“There are no excuses for that,” the coach added.

After the first two quarters of play, the Trojans were winning 26-18, however, in the third, CHHS only managed to put six points on the board. Enterprise was able to cut into the lead, thanks to its 10 points in the third and 28 in the fourth.

The Trojans only scored 17 in the final period.

“I felt our kids reacted well to [the Barbour County loss],” Hollis said.

“They started easing up in the fourth. I called some time outs to try and keep them focused but it didn’t end up working.”

As it has all season, CHHS struggled turnover and free throws, committed 22 turnover and shooting 50 percent from the free throw line, 14-28.

Mitch McLeod led the way for the Trojans with 13 points, while Justin Davis and Alex White added 12 and nine points, respectively.

As a team, the Trojans shot just 31 percent from the floor, hitting 11 of its 35 attempts and only connected on 26 percent of its 3-point tries, hitting four of 11 shots.

“We are going to get better – there is not doubt about it,” Hollis said about his team’s play.

“I have a lot of faith in this team and I know each of these players wants to do well. We are just going to have to work a little bit harder now.”

The Trojans will be in action again this Saturday as it takes on Whitfield Academy of Atlanta in the Dothan Eagle Basketball tournament.

Tip-off is set for 9:30 p.m.
