After coming off a 67-42 lose at home to Andalusia on Tuesday night, the Pike County boys’ basketball team hit the road on Thursday looking to forget about the game and get back on track.

The Bulldogs did just that against Bullock County.

PCHS returned to Pike County with happy thanks to a 54-52 win, an din the process improving the team’s overall record to 3-4 on the early season.

“Heck of a ball game tonight – this was the best game we have played all season long,” head coach Will Moguel said following the team’s win on the road. “This was a big win for our team.”

“We have been struggling lately and [Thursday night] we played really hard and physical all night long and it really paid off for us,” the coach added.

One of the reasons why the team was able to come away with a victory was because of its ability to not do something it has done a lot this season – shoot 3-pointers.

“We didn’t shoot a 3-pointer all night long, and that was a really good thing,” Moguel said.

“I told the guys that we need to work the ball in and that is exactly what the team did and it worked really well for us tonight.”

The Bulldogs shot 62 percent from the floor with Kendrick Jackson leading the way with 22 points and David Foster right behind him, finishing with 17 points on the night.

“This was a big game for our team and they responded in a big way,” Moguel said.

“I am proud with how we played tonight and hopefully, we can keep it going the rest of the season.”

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday in the Dothan Progress Tournament when the team will take on Pensacola in the Ozark Civic Center.
