For the 16th straight year, the children of Pike County had an opportunity to have breakfast with a special guest Saturday morning.

The Troy Junior Women’s League sponsored its 16th annual Breakfast with Santa Saturday at Park Memorial Baptist Church, which was followed by a Christmas carnival.

“Everybody came and had breakfast and pictures with Santa, and then they went over to the carnival, which had bounce houses, face painting and a coloring contest,” said vice-president Brooke Terry. “It was just a lot of fun, despite the weather.”

Those who came certainly had to brave unfavorable conditions in order to dine with Santa Claus, but attendance was strong nonetheless.

“We were kind of worried because of the rain and the cold, but we had a really good turnout,” Terry said.

The money raised by the event will go toward supporting several of the League’s causes.

“We give a scholarship to a senior every year and we also have a room at the child advocacy center that we keep up,” Terry said. “We also donate to Miracle Field and several other organizations.”

While all those causes will be helped by the event, Breakfast with Santa was a rousing success for another reason.

“Oh, the kids definitely enjoyed themselves,” Terry said.
