A recent Zion Chapel High School graduate died in a Dothan hospital Wednesday afternoon, after he was the victim of a single vehicle crash.

Daniel Cody Arnold, 19, of Troy, passed away in Southeast Alabama Medical Center late Wednesday after he was airlifted with serious injuries, said his grandfather Melvin Arnold.

According to information from the Alabama State Troopers, Arnold’s vehicle was traveling south on Coffee County Road 205 when his vehicle ran off the road, struck a drainage pipe and ejected him.

Arnold was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro when his vehicle collided at 12:45 p.m., about six miles north of Zion Chapel.

Arnold’s grandfather said his grandson was graduate of Zion Chapel High School and an employee at Brundidge’s Wal-Mart Distribution Center.

Bob Hartwell, principal of Zion Chapel, said he remembered Arnold as a sociable student.

“He was a good kid. We had no real problems with him, and he was a real sociable kid,” Hartwell said. “The girls liked him.”

Hartwell said the school is planning a memorial service, but no decisions have been made at this time.

Danny Ward, general manager of Wal-Mart Distribution Center, said Arnold will be missed at the store.

“I know he was a well-liked young man,” Ward said. “He had a lot of respect for his peers and managers here. It was a very unfortunate accident that happened.”

The funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. The visitation will be held at Dillard Saturday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dillard.
