One of the most highly anticipated events of the Christmas season is the annual “Sounds of the Season” concert sponsored by the Troy University College of Communication and Fine Arts.

So, a packed house is expected for the “Sounds of the Season” concert “Illuminations” tonight at the Crosby Theater.

Dr. Maryjo Cochran, dean, College of Communication and Fine Arts, said to expect a wonderful evening of Christmas, patriotic and secular music.

“The concert features our symphony orchestra, our choral groups and solos,” she said.

“‘Sounds of the Season’ is a wonderful start to the Christmas season.”

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Claudia Crosby Theater. There is no admission charge but tickets are required.

“We do expect a capacity crowd and there could be a few tickets available at the door but I wouldn’t suggest taking a chance on that,” Cochran said.

“It would be best to call or go by the box office.”

“Illuminations” is a varied program of music and opens with the reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Dr. Hal Fulmer, dean of undergraduate studies and associate provost.

Fulmer will be accompanied by the symphony band.

Special performances by the School of Music faculty will include Dr. Hui-Ting Yang, piano solo, “Silent Night;”

Dr. Meg Jackson, vocal with Troy University Jazz Band, “Jazz at Christmas;” Dr. Michael Hix, vocal solo, “O Holy Night;” and Dr. Catherine Allard, vocal with symphony band, “Still, Still, Still.”

“We will also have a reprise of the Veteran’s Day concert showstopper, ‘An American Anthem,’ performed by Phil Kelly and the symphony band,” Cochran said.

Other music will be presented by the Frequency Choir, Collegiate Singers, Concert Chorale, Gospel Choir, Brass Quintet, Symphony Band and the Jazz Band.

The concert is about an hour and a half and, immediately following, everyone is invited to gather outside Smith Hall for the annual Troy University Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

“The ‘Sounds of the Season’ concert is a gift to the community from the university and it is a wonderful way to start the holiday season,” Cochran said.

“We are looking forward to this wonderful event.”
