All of those who enjoy baking and supporting a very worthwhile organization at the same time are invited to heat up their ovens.

The ninth annual Pike County Habitat for Humanity Giant Cookie Sale will be from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Dec. 12 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Troy.

“The Giant Cookie Sale wouldn’t be the success that it always is without the support of the community,” said Fred Johnson, Pike County Habitat executive director.

“Churches, organizations and so many individuals are so generous with their time and talent, and we appreciate their support. Without them, the Giant Cookie Sale wouldn’t even be possible.”

The Giant Cookie Sale is an annual benefit for Pike County Habitat for Humanity and is much more than a cookie sale.

The sale has been expanded to include cakes, candies and crafts.

“Whatever you’d like to bake, cook or make, we’ll appreciate,” Johnson said.

“We’ll have some of the best sweet treats that you can get anywhere and a variety of them. And, we can guarantee they’ll all be delicious.”

Those who bake or make items for the Habitat for Humanity Giant Cookie Sale may deliver their donations to the activity hall at St. Martin Catholic Church from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10 and from noon until 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.

“The more items we have, the more money that we’ll raise to help build Habitat homes in Pike County for those in need of adequate shelter,” Johnson said.

“The cookie sales have raised more than $21,000 in the past eight years. We expect this year’s sale to be the biggest and best ever.”

The cookies remain $5 a pound and can be mixed or matched.

“You can select one of each kind or all of one kind or a mixture of any or all,” Johnson said.

“It’s fun just to pick out the ones you want.”

Jim Wadowick and Gene O’Masta will entertain shoppers with accordion music and the music alone is a real treat.

Johnson said he wanted to thank, in advance, all of those bake or make items for the cookies sale and all of those who support the sale with purchases and donations.
