The city of Troy Christmas parade gets bigger and better every year, said Mayor Jimmy Lunsford.

And that looks to hold true again.

At 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, residents will line the streets of downtown Troy to kick off the Christmas season as a community.

“It’s a really good community event and showcases what the city of Troy is all about,” said Melissa Sanders, assistant city clerk. “Everyone needs to come out and join us in the holiday season and get in the Christmas spirit.”

Sanders said there were 85 early entries in the parade, but she anticipates more will sign up before Monday’s event.

“We have what appears to be more floats in the past,” Sanders said.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Christmas Around the World.”

The route will start on Elm Street and follow Elm Street to the square. The parade will turn in front of Oliver’s and enter the square backwards. We will turn left beside SheBang & Landmark and end at the Courthouse parking lot.

Entries will be floats, cars and just people on foot, and Sanders said each year the event is great entertainment.

“It is so much fun at the parade,” Sanders said.

Following the Christmas parade, there will be a tree lighting ceremony, where Lunsford will light the Christmas tree, with the assistance of Troy Elementary School students.
