Troy utility payments now online

Troy residents will soon be able to eliminate one step when paying their monthly utility bills — city hall.

Starting Monday, a new system will be in place for residents to pay utility bills online each month.

“We’re putting in new computer systems for all services for the city,” said Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford. “This allows us to add new conveniences for the public.”

Troy City Clerk Alton Staring said people have requested this service for some time, but the city was waiting on the computer systems before putting it in place.

For the November bills, however, residents will be able to take advantage of the online payment option.

Through the service, residents will be able to not just pay their bills, but also manage accounts, view their consumption history and update their personal information.

In order to make payments, residents must create an account with their utility account number and the amount of their last payment.

For those who pay in arrangements, contracts or with the average monthly bill plan, those payment options are available, as well.

Whenever an account is updated online, it will immediately compute in the city’s system.

Payments can be made at www.troyalabama.com.

There is a $1.25 processing fee for making online payments.

Utilities Director James Flowers said one of the benefits may be for Troy University students, who are frequently out of town.

“I think it will be real handy for students,” Flowers said. “They can use it when they’re out of town or parents may want to pay bills for them and can use it.”
