Before the Turkey is all gone, local stores will open their doors for the biggest shopping day of the year.

Traditionally, Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year and the turnout usually is significant.

Local stores offer specials unlike any other day of the year, and shoppers typically line up well before the stores open for business.

As the old saying goes, “the early bird gets the worm.” And shoppers can model that bird and head to Wal-Mart as early at 5 a.m. For specials visit www.walmart.com.

Lowes will open its doors at 6 a.m. Residents can get a sneak peak at store specials on the store’s Web site, www.lowes.com.

Also opening at 6 a.m. is Troy’s newest retailer, Tractor Supply Co.

“We have a circular that’s going out,” said Store Manager Brendan Scott. “It’s supposed to come out in the newspapers starting Wednesday.”

Scott said things that will be on sale Black Friday include larger items such as log splitters. For those shoppers not interested in getting up so early one local store will open a little later than others.

Peebles will open at 7 a.m., said Store Manager Holly Reamer.

“We will have a lot of early birds,” Reamer said. “We have a really great coupon book that we’re going to be handing out. It’s an all day thing.”

Reamer said the store will have diamond pendants on sale as well as having two extra 20 percent off single item coupons. “We also have digital coin counting jars for $12.99,” Reamer said. Reamer said the entire stock of men’s shoes will be buy one get one free.

Local hometown merchants will also be open for business.

While, Terra Cotta will not open early, Nancy Harrell said they will have some specials, which will be different than the current specials. “We will be open 8:30 to 5:30,” Harrell said.

“But, we will open Thanksgiving afternoon to sell live Christmas trees.”
