American Legion Post 70 and its Auxiliary are assisting family members in sending care packages to the men and women of the military who are serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other war zones.

Katie Hale, Auxiliary president, said the Post 70 and its Auxiliary will be honored to reimburse up to $12 per package sent to military personnel.

“This reimbursement is for one package per military person serving in a war zone,” Hale said. “All we need for the reimbursement is the postal receipt and the name of the military personnel.”

Hale said those who wish to participate in the reimbursement program should ask for the flat rate “America Supports You” box at the post office.

“You can put as much in the flat rate box as you can get in there,” she said. “As long as the package doesn’t weigh over 70 pounds there will be no problem.”

Suggested items for the boxes include lotions, chapsticks, flavored water packs, foot powder, books, magazines, hard candy, marshmallows, chewing gum, powdered drinks, socks and movies.

“We have a limited number of boxes for reimbursement so we encourage everyone to contact us as soon as possible,” Hale said. “Of course, we would appreciate any monetary donations. They will allow us to help more families with sending packages to their loved ones.”
