Two recreation league Super Bowls were played Saturday in Troy involving two Troy teams, and both Troy teams were able to bring home championships.

The 10-U Troy Dolphins took on Daleville in their game, and were able to win the game 7-0.

Head coach Shane Griffin said the defense stepped up for his team Saturday just as it had done all season long.

“For us to win 7-0 like that, it was definitely a defensive game, but our defense has been our strong point all season long,” Griffin said.

The lone touchdown of the game came when JaBronski Williams broke an 80-yard run that proved to be the game winner. Williams finished the game with over 100 yards rushing.

The Dolphins, however, were not the only team that brought home a title, as the 12-U Troy Cardinals also won their Super Bowl game, defeating Brundidge 32-14.

The whole team played well on both sides of the ball,” said head coach Darius Carlyle. “We had some older guys that really stepped up today, and some of the younger guys played well, too.” The Cardinals offense was explosive Saturday, and was led by a triumvirate of players Carlyle was especially proud of.

“Christopher McKenzie at running back was huge,” Carlyle said. “He’s led us in scoring and rushing all year long. Our quarterback, Carter Edwards, played real well for us today just like he has all season. Kordell Anderson had a big play with a 70-yard keeper, as well.”

For both coaches, seeing their players have the thrill of winning a championship was the ultimate reward. “It’s just really hard to describe what they’ve accomplished,” Griffin said. “In order for us to even make the playoffs, we had tow in our last game of the season, and form that point on, we just got on a roll. It was good to see the kids accomplish something they’ve been working for all season.” For Carlyle, the title is his first in several years of coaching.

“It really means everything to me to get to see them celebrate,” Carlyle said. “I’ve been coaching now for seven or eight years, and this is the first time one of my teams has won the Super Bowl. I’m very pleased with these kids. They worked hard all year long, and that really paid off at the end of the season.”
