Alabama’s supreme storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham will return to the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge for two Christmas storytelling concerts on Dec. 4 and 5.

Tickets for the annual Chili Country Christmas concerts will go on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Rue’s Antiques on Main Street in Brundidge or by calling 334-735-3125. Tickets are $20 each and include pre-show music by the WPA Scratch Band, a chili supper and stories by the master storyteller.

The Chili Country Christmas storytelling concert is sponsored annually by the Brundidge Historical Society.

“We’re very excited and honored to have Kathryn Windham back at the We Piddle Around Theater,” said Dinah Kelsey, a member of the storytelling committee. “People are always asking when are we going to have ‘Miss Kathryn’ back. To have her back at the We Piddle Around Theater will be a real treat.”

Windham has appeared at the Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival for the past two years but chose the Christmas storytelling concert this year.

“I have a lot of wonderful Christmas memories and I don’t often get a chance to share them,” Windham said. “I’m looking forward to being back at the We Piddle Around Theater, especially at Christmas time.”

Windham is known for organizing comb-playing gatherings and she is planning one for the event.

“I want us to all to play a few Christmas songs on the combs,” she said.

“It might be the first Christmas comb concert anywhere around. And it will be a lot of fun.”

Playing the combs doesn’t take any previous experience. Anyone that can hum can play a comb.

“It will be a lot of fun to be a part of Miss Kathryn’s comb concert but the best thing will be hearing her seasonal stories,” Kelsey said.

“She draws a crowd wherever she goes and I can’t think of a better or more special way to usher in the 2009 Christmas season than with stories by Alabama’s master storyteller, Kathryn Tucker Windham.”
