At the beginning of the season in August, first year Goshen head coach Bart Snyder was looking to improve the Eagles from a 5-5 record in 2008.

Now, at the end of October, Snyder and his coaching staff have done that and more.

With last week’s 40-14 victory over St. Jude, GHS clinched the second seed in 2A Region 3, sealing its first home playoff game in eight years.

“From playing high school football at Goshen and coaching there since 1988, having this opportunity to lead this group of boys and this community into the playoffs means a lot to me,” Snyder said.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in region play.

Since losing to Pike County back on Sept. 25, GHS has won four straight by an average score of 34.5 to 13.

“These guys understand the game of football,” Snyder said.

“We will be working on getting prepared for the right level of play [against Montgomery Catholic]. They beat us real bad last year, so the kids will be ready to go,” the coach added.

Last season, the Knights beat the Eagles 41-0, in route to a 7-4 overall record

This season, things have not gone the way Montgomery Catholic had hoped thanks to a 2-7 record, however Snyder said the Knights are no push over.

“They are a very good ball team,” Snyder said.

“They have a large offense line and a good group of running backs. The are a team that gets after it real hard,” he added.

The Eagles will look to avenge last season’s loss and end the season on the high point with a win against the Knights this Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Eagle’s Nest.
