The stage was set, a humid damp Friday night in Geneva.

The characters were a team with something to prove, the other was a team searching for perfection. The result was a battle that ended with a Marquavous Knox overtime touchdown run.

In a game played on a watered down field, the Pike County Bulldogs and the Geneva Wildcats put on a show that PCHS quarterback Josh Parker called “Just another big time Geneva Pike County game.”

However, the first half was not without its fireworks as Geneva drew first blood on a Tolbert ran in a 5-yard touchdown run to put Geneva up 6-0.

Then, just like he has done all season, Parker led his team back, answering with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Stephan Foster to tie the game at 6-6 heading into halftime.

With the possible image of losing their perfect season in mind, PCHS head coach Eddie Stephenson told his team to do what they’ve done all season – to fight.

“I told them to keep fighting, no matter what, we were being outplayed and we needed to play smarter and knock off the penalties,” the coach said.

Geneva received the ball first and would promptly put the ball in the end zone on a Tavarus McIntyre touchdown run, however a missed extra point would spell disaster for Geneva, as they would only go up 12-6.

That was all the Bulldogs needed as Knox ran the first play in for a touchdown, setting up Parker’s game winning extra point, setting off a wild celebration that would cap a perfect season for the Bulldogs with a 13-12 victory.

After the game a teary eyed Knox, said that the team had devoted the season to their fallen teammate Bubba Snells, who died earlier in the year.
