There’s a kind of peanut called a “runner,” so it wouldn’t be right to have a Peanut Butter Festival and not include a run.

The 5K Peanut Butter Run has been a part of the annual Peanut Butter Festival for 16 years and it’s a popular event for folks who enjoy – running.

The 5K Run also includes a one-mile Goober Walk for those who would rather walk than run.

The run is a rather easy one for seasoned runners. It takes a flat Main Street route through downtown Brundidge that is all decked out for the Peanut Butter Festival. It also goes past the historic Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library, the Bass House and the Johnston Museum which is where peanut butter was first made commercially in the South.

The 5K Peanut Butter Run gets underway with the ringing of the cow bell at 8 a.m. at Green’s Antiques on South Main Street.

On-site registration begins at 7 a.m. However, runners can pre-register at Troy Bank & Trust in Brundidge or by calling 735-9191.

Registration fee is $10 and includes a tee shirt for all runners who finish the run.

Prizes are awarded to the top three runners in both the male and female age divisions.

The runner with the best overall time will receive the Peanut Butter Run Trophy, designed by Brundidge artist Larry Godwin.
