Zion Chapel suffered another disappointment last Friday night as its offensive woes continued.

Against a winless Marion team, the Rebels fell 16-8, dropping its fourth straight game and its record to 1-7 overall, 1-5 in 2A Region3.

“It’s been a frustrating season,” Rebels head coach Mike Waters said during the Rebels’ practice on Wednesday afternoon.

“We have suffered a lot of different injuries throughout the season – we never really had the team we wanted out on the field.

“Everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong,” Waters added.

During last week’s game against Marion, 14 players who were starters at one time or another during the season did not dress for the game.

“The kids have continued to work hard though and have not quit on this season – we just need to learn how to win,” Waters said.

During this current four-game losing streak, the Rebels have been outscored 15-93, including being shut out against both Reeltown and R.C. Hatch.

Despite the team’s troubles this season, Waters said there is still a lot for his team to play for in the last weeks of the season.

“We want to have a good showing for our Homecoming game,” the coach said.

“A lot of pride goes into this game and we want to make people proud. What people will remember the most is how a team finished its season.

“We are playing for our pride now,” Waters added.

The team will be looking to end the season with two wins against Highland Home on Friday during the ZCHS’s Homecoming game and next week against Elba.

As for the Flying Squadron, Waters said his Rebels are preparing for a team that has improved all throughout the season.

“[HHHS] keeps getting better and better every week,” Waters said.

“They played Goshen off their feet last week. They have some pretty good skilled players on the team that are going to present some problems for us.”

The winner of this game will get just its second win of the season as the Flying Squadron comes into the game with the same record as the Rebels,

Last week HHHS feel to Goshen 27-12 on the road.

Like ZCHS, HHHS has struggled to find its offense this season.

In the eight games the team has played, they have been outscored 256-61.

“We are going to try and do what we have tried all season – run the football,” Waters said.

“Hopefully, we have a little bit more success this time around.”

The Rebels will look to secure a Homecoming victory over the Flying Squadron on Friday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
