There is a week that comes once a year where people, both young and old, can share in the same enjoyment.

For many, this is a time for some to relive old memories and for others it is a time to make new ones.

Troy University is currently celebrating this week – Homecoming week. With all the different festivities going on, there is really only one thing that truly matters however, a Trojan win on Saturday night.

Think about it, the homecoming game is supposed to be the one game of the year that a team is supposed to win. A loss would be more devastating then a last second defeat to a bitter rival like Arkansas State or a thrashing like what the Patriots did to the Titans this past Sunday.

Can you imagine what the reaction would have been like if Troy would have come out of Baton Rouge with a victory last season?

I’m sure the Tiger faithful would still be rioting – a year later. Point is, this is the one game where a team’s pride is really on the line. The team could care less about what’s going on outside of the football field – which is the way it should be.

This week, Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said the crown and jewel of Homecoming week is winning the game – and he is exactly right.

This is the game where a team is not just playing for the people who are currently making up the university but in fact playing for everyone that has ever been associated with the university.

In the end, all the kings and the queens will be crowned and the parades will march down the streets.

But there is a chance they will all be forgotten as time passes.

Counting down the final seconds to a Homecoming win, as the fight song blares in the background is one of those moments that makes the hair on the back of your stand straight.

Its this reason that people come back, to relive old memories and make new ones.
