For much of the 2009 season, the Trojans of Charles Henderson had struggled to find its identity on offense.

There were flashes of greatness during the team’s first win over Booker T. Washington, however it would not last long.

Following the win, the offensive completely disappeared, as the team scored just seven points during a three game span.

But that was then, and this is now.

Since being shut out 14-0 by Beauregard two weeks ago, the Trojans’ offense has exploded for 42 points and 50 points in the past two weeks against Rehobeth and Carroll, respectively.

The offensive surge helped propel the Trojans to a two-game winning streak, improving its overall record to 3-5, 3-3 in 5A Region 2.

Yet, even with the momentum Trojans have experienced, it will only last for two more games.

Last weekend, even though CHHS won its game against Carroll, Beauregard beat Valley and Eufaula beat Rehobeth and in the process knocked the Trojans out of playoff contention.

“We have been telling our kids the truth the whole time. We knew what had to happen for us to get into the playoffs and it just didn’t work out the way we all had hoped for,” CHHS head coach Hugh Fountain said Tuesday night after the team’s practice.

“The worst thing in the world is to expect someone else to do the job for you, but that’s the boat that we got into and our kids knew that,” Fountain added.

Even with the end of the season near, Fountain said there is still a lot for his team to play of.

“This team is playing for its pride now,” he said.

“There are always moments when you look back at a season and wish you could have done some things differently.

“Making the playoffs was one of our goals and the kids spent a lot of time on the field to try and make that goal happen, but it didn’t,” Fountain said. “That’s why [this season] is a bit of a disappointment.”

Now, the Trojans will prepare to continue its winning streak in its last home game against region foe, Eufaula on Friday night.

“They are pretty explosive,” the coach said about the Tigers.

“They run the ball well, they have speed all over the place – they are pretty much the Eufaula we have always seen.”

The Tigers will come into Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium with a 5-3 overall record, 3-1 in conference play.

Fountain said that his team has had a good week of practice preparing for the game despite the devastating news received last weekend.

“We had opportunities all throughout the season,” he said.

“We still have a lot to play for – we are going to go out there and battle for these next two games.”

“We are going to take it one game at a time, do what we are capable of doing and improve along the way,” the coach added.

The Trojans will take the field against the Tigers on Senior Night this Friday at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium with a kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
