For a second straight week, the Zion Chapel Rebels were held out of the end zone and in the process handed its third straight loss by R.C. Hatch last Friday.

The 12-0 loss to the Bobcats dropped ZCHS to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in 2A Region 3 play.

Going into the game, head coach Mike Waters talked about working on new offensive formations to in the hopes it would create more looks for quarterback Dillon Davis – however those formations weren’t as successful as planned.

“It didn’t work out at all,” Waters said.

“We tried to get incorporate the pass more in the new formations and it just didn’t turn out well for us – now we are going to focus on running the ball successfully.”

Waters pointed out that the last 17 times the Rebels of thrown the ball, there have been seven interceptions with just one completion. “We are going to continue to work hard on our running game, but I think we are still a work in progress,” the coach added.

Now, the Rebels are preparing for another region foe on the road – winless Marion team.

However, even though the Rams have yet to win, Waters said they are no pushovers.

“[Marion] is a scary team,” Waters said.

“They have so many athletes on their team that could present a lot of problems for us. We are going to have to do a good job with our young secondary and prevent as many big plays as possible.”

As far the remainder of the season goes, Waters said he wants his team to continue to get better and for future seasons.

“I want us to learn how to play hard and to play with discipline,” Waters said about the rest of the season.

“We need to stay focused and learn what it takes to win [for the future]. I think down the road we’ll be able to challenge,” he added.

The Rebels will hit the road again on Friday for their match up against the Rams, with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
