If there was every a time the Charles Henderson Trojans needed a victory it was Friday night at Movie Gallery Stadium.

Coming into its homecoming game against Rehobeth, the Trojans were on a three game losing streak and struggling to find any kind of offense.

However, once the final bell had sounded all that had changed.

CHHS dominated the Rebels for four straight quarters and in the process earned its second victory of the season, winning 42-16.

“We played hard and got after them early,” CHHS Hugh Fountain said following his team’s win.

“Offensively, we came out clicking and we were able to set the tone early.”

The Trojans’ first drive of the game was an 11-play, 72-yard drive that took over six minutes off the clock and more importantly finished with senior quarterback K.D. Edenfield finding senior wide receiver Jabari Brown for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

CHHS would score on its next two drives, building a 21-0 lead.

All three touchdowns came through the air – senior wide receiver Stanley McGhee had a nine-yard touchdown reception and junior wide receiver had Corey Dennis 77-yard touchdown reception.

Despite giving up giving up 10 points towards the end of the first half, the Trojans took the locker room with a 21-10 lead and we not finished.

Like their first possession of the game, the Trojans set the tone immediatetly.

An eight-play, 67-yard drive did just that resulting in a five-yard Edenfield touchdown run.

“Everyone came into the game focused and it showed from the very start,” the senior said.

“Everyone executed and made plays when it counted – this is a win that could be a big jump start for the rest of the season,” Edenfield added.

The quarterback’s night was finished after the third quarterback but by then he had passed for 193 yards and four touchdowns, competing eight of 12 passes and also ran for 109 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries.

“It feels fantastic to get this win,” Edenfield said.

“It’s a big sigh of relief, feels like the monkey is off our back a little bit.”

With the win, the Trojans improve to 2-5 overall and more important 2-2 in 5A Region 2 play.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t see this coming,” Fountain said.

“When I looked at the game, I thought it was going to be a very close game.

“Rehobeth has been very competitive all season long, but tonight we just clicked and we showed a glimpse of what we could do,” the coach added.

In the fourth quarter the Trojans, led by Dennis, continued to dominate the game.

The icing on the cake came when Dennis, who replaced Edenfield, rushed for a 31-yard touchdown at the beginning of quarter, breaking the 40-point barier for the Trojans.

Dennis finished the game rushing for 84 yards and a touchdown on six carries, had three receptions for 77-yards and also completed one of two passes for six yards.

“Everyone came today and realized we had to become more of a team and play like we are capable of playing – like we should have all year,” Dennis said.

“It means a lot to be able to help out and contribute to the offense – but I wouldn’t be able to do it if not for my teammates.”

The Trojan offense as a whole finished with 500 total yards, while the defense only allowed 208 Rebel yards.

“I think we played hard, focused on getting the job done tonight,” Fountain said.

“We stressed all week for our kids to forget the first six [games], forget the next four [games] and to just go play our homecoming game.

“We talked about taking the season we got left and just enjoy it and to come out and have fun,” the coach said. “It sure looked like it to me they did [have fun].”

Fountain said that the win was a big relief and that hopefully it would catapult his team into the right direction.

“[Friday’s win] was big for us. A game like this is a huge boost of confidance for the rest of the way.

“I was proud of how well our kids played tonight,” Fountain added.

The Trojans will look to continue its winning ways next week on the road against Carroll.
