As Friday approaches, so does the second half of the high school football season – otherwise known as the do or die time of the year for most teams.

Coming into Friday’s games, only two teams in the Messenger’s coverage area are more than likely playoff locks – Pike County and Pike Liberal Arts School.

The Bulldogs are currently undefeated at 5-0 while the Patriots have suffered just one loss, sitting at 3-1.

The three other teams, Charles Henderson, Zion Chapel and Goshen, still have their work cut out for them.

But with that being said, there is still enough time in the season for all five schools to make playoff pushes.

The Trojans’ opponents for the first half of the season currently have a combined 19-6 record, including two undefeated teams – Theodore and Greenville.

Things could get easier the rest of the way for CHHS as the teams remaining on the team’s schedule currently have a combined record of 8-14.

Goshen and Zion Chapel both compete in 2A Region 3, which for the time being appears to have two playoff spots open for anyone to grab. All the Eagles, who are 2-1 in region play, and Rebels, who are 1-2, would have to do is win the majority of its games. One of the best things about sports is its unpredictability – anything can happen at any given time.

Who knows where any of these teams will be once November comes around.

This is the time of season where all the hard work put in during the summer months has the opportunity to finally pay off.
