After falling to a 1-4 to start the season, the Charles Henderson Trojans are not in the position many thought the team would be.

The Trojans slumped continue last week, when the team fell last week to undefeated 6A power Theodore by just six points, 13-7.

CHHS forced five Bobcat turnovers, but were only able to take advantage of one – a Darius McClain 27-yard fumble recovery to the end zone.

However, despite their recent woes, the Trojans still believe they have a shot to right the wrong.

“We are looking at the second half of the season,” head coach Hugh Fountain said. “The next four games are of huge importance and it all starts with Beauregard on Friday.”

The Beauregard Hornets come into the game boasting a 4-1 overall record, 2-1 in region play.

“A win would be a step in the right direction,” Fountain said. “It would be a step towards the playoffs and redeeming our season.”

Ever since CHHS’ 21-6 win over Booker T. Washington back in week three, the offense has struggled.

The Trojans have been outscored 44-24 in the past two games, and was held without any offensive points in last week’s loss to Theodore.

In that loss to the Bobcats, the offense only gained 150 yards.

Despite the lack of production, Fountain said nothing is going to change offensively.

“We haven’t executed well when we had opportunities to put produce points [on offense],” he said. “Every week we evaluate our personnel and see if we can change some things up to give us more of a boost. “But the most important thing to do during a slump like what we are going through is to remain a team – no matter what,” the coach added.

If the Trojans want to be playing in December, the team cannot offered to lose anymore ball games, and that is something the coach believes his team can do. “Each week, from here on out, is going to be like a playoff game,” Fountain said. “Every game carries significance – a lot of different scenarios could happen. The important thing is we get refocused in practice.”

The Beauregard offense comes into the game averaging over 335 yards per game as well as over 28 points per game while the Hornets defense has only given up 65 points.

“I see them as a good football team,” Fountain said. “They have done a good job of running the ball and stopping their opponents on offense all season long. “Before we start to worry about who we are about to play, we need to get ourselves corrected. We feel like we can win any game we play in – we just gotta play well,” he added. The Trojans will look to get back in the playoff picture this Friday at Beauregard when the game kicks off at 7 p.m.
