Troy Police arrested a man charged with burglary Friday, but it wasn’t without a hunt.

Xavier Demain Tate, 25, of Troy, was wanted by the United States Marshals Service on charges of burglary first degree from a 2005 incident in Macon County, said Troy Police Chief Anthony Everage.

Tate was first observed in Troy, when a local officer spotted him on Carroll Street around 11:15 a.m.

Officers attempted to confirm his identity when he ran into the woods off Vine Street, near the Piggly Wiggly.

Everage said officers established a perimeter around the wooded area to ensure Tate remained in the woods. Posts were established on Murphree, Pine, North Three Notch, Vine and Carroll Streets.

Officers remained in place as they waited on tracking dogs from the Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton.

Everage said tracking dogs arrived at 12:20 p.m., and Tate was in custody four minutes later.

Tate was turned over the to U.S. Marshall’s office on the scene in Troy and transported to Montgomery, Everage said.

Everage expressed his appreciation to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, K-9 handlers from Ventress and the U.S. Marshals for assisting in Tate’s capture Friday.
