After falling to Abbeville in week one, the Goshen Eagles have soared ever since.

Last week against Keith, Goshen (2-1) got off to a running start and never looked back, sinking the Bears for the team’s second region win in just as many weeks.

A big reason for the team’s success has come on the legs of the running back combo of Reginald Foster and Marcus Jackson.

The two combined for 307 rushing yards and four touchdowns against Keith, the sophomore Foster finished with 154 while the junior Foster finished with 153.

“When you got two running backs like that, you try and get the football in their hands as much as possible,” Goshen head coach Bart Snyder said.

“I’m sure other teams are going to try and stack the line and stop us. Both Reginald and Marcus have come a long way since the beginning of the season and we are going to keep the ball on the ground.”

Like the Eagles, the Reeltown Rebels (2-1), Goshen’s next opponent, is on a bit of a winning streak.

Coming into the game, the Class 2A, Region 3 rival has won its last two region games – beating Marion 38-6 and Highland Home 46-15 last week.

[Reeltown] is a lot like Keith,” Snyder said. “They are very disciplined.”

“They have a good defense and a strong offense.

“They do things right over there, they do the things they are supposed to do,” the coach added.

Like the Eagles, the Rebels have a strong rushing attack as well.

Reeltown has three running backs who could present some problems for the Goshen defense in the form of Juantavious McKeithen, who has 147 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 22 carries, Willie McKenzie, who has rushed for 257 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries and Ki-shawn Powell, who has rushed for 154 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries.

“We are expecting them to line up and run at us,” Snyder said.

“They are going to want to pound the football in the hopes that it sets up a big passing play or big running play.

“We have to be prepared to make sure that does not happen,” he said.

Snyder said that a win against the Rebels might be something that makes the Eagles the team to beat in the region.

“This is a very big game for us and a win would be huge,” Snyder said.

“Reeltown is a team that has a lot of strong history and we will be playing our third game on the road in a hostile environment.

“To come out of this game with a win would be something close to a milestone victory for us. It would be a major confidence builder and something that would hopefully put us in the driver’s seat for the region,” Snyder added.

Goshen and Reeltown are scheduled for 7 p.m. kickoff today.
