Brundidge City Councilman Arthur Lee Griffin will face trial today on third degree assault charges stemming from an April 2 incident in Coffee County.

Griffin’s charges come as a result of a traffic stop involving Ozark resident Alfred Schultz, who signed a warrant for Griffin’s arrest.

Schultz claimed Griffin assaulted him by “shoving a shotgun into his neck while (he) was in handcuffs,” according to the warrant.

Griffin pleaded not guilty to these charges.

Schultz’s wife, Anna, told The Messenger someone allegedly followed her husband in his truck, as he left his job at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Brundidge.

Anna Schultz said the alleged incident ended in Coffee County, she also stated the Brundidge Police Department, pulled her husband over, told him to get out of his vehicle and handcuffed him.

The trial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Coffee County Courthouse in Elba.
