This morning the Troy University football got some good news from the NCAA.

Louisiana State University transfer defensive tackle Sidell Corley became eligible to play this season after the NCAA ruled in favor of his hardship waiver.

The 6-foot-4, 274-pound Corley transferred to Troy in August after the deaths of both his mother and uncle.

The sophomore traveled with the team Wednesday afternoon to Bowling Green, Ohio where the Trojans’ first game will take place tonight.

“There is a chance [he could play] depending on the situation,” head coach Larry Blakeney said.

“He could give us a play or two but right now we are working on getting him situated on the road.”

Blakeney added that both illness and injury would also effect his Corley’s playing time.

“When he is ready, he is going to give us a lot of depth [on the defensive line],” the Trojan head coach said.

“He has a lot of early attributes to be a fine player, but just hasn’t had a lot of opportunity to show everything he can do.”

Corley, who is originally from Mobile, signed with LSU in 2007.

He was red shirted that season and only played in two games in 2008 collecting two tackles in the process.

He will have three years of eligibility left for Troy.

Before leaving for Baton Rouge, Corley was a four-star recruit from McGill-Toolen High School.

There, he was a blue-chip defensive end, who was ranked the fourth-best strongside defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com.

He was also a part of the ESPN.com 150 top players.
