The call for volunteers has been issued, and if Anthony Grant’s experience is any indication, answering that call will be personally rewarding.

Grant volunteered earlier this year to assist with the Outdoors Without Limits Deer Hunt, which allowed people with disabilities to come to Pike County to hunt. The hunt was such a success in January that plans already are underway for the 2010 hunt, and that’s where the need for volunteers comes into play.

Volunteers will be able to do everything from assist hunters in the woods to providing clerical and kitchen support for the event, as well as monetary sponsorships. But the most rewarding, of course, is the opportunity to see hunters of all ages and all physical abilities enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the passion of, for some, harvesting their first deer during the event. It’s an experience that Grant said gives grown men and young boys alike hope, pride and a sense of success … a confidence in knowing that despite physical disabilities they still can achieve in the field.
