Lockheed Martin employees, along with local and county officials, and a U.S. Congressman gathered together Tuesday to dedicate the re-launch of the Javelin missile line at the Troy facility.

The Javelin line is the world’s premier shoulder-fired anti-armor system, and is marketed as taking the fight to the enemy.

It was developed and produced for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps by the Javelin Joint Venture between Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Fla. and Raytheon in Tucson, Ariz.

Site Director Mel Schubert showed members of the audience video footage from a Javelin stockpile reliability test fire. The missiles were fired at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville had be in storage for several years.

The test proved to be successful.

“That kind of reliability comes from excellent engineering and excellent manufacturing,” Schubert said.

U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright was on hand at the event, and provided the appropriations to help the Javelin line continue to be made at the facility.

“What you’re doing her is tremendous,” Bright said.

Bright said he was pleased to help get the funding for the continuation of the missile line.

“That’s 14 new jobs. That’s 14 good salaries. That’s 14 families,” Bright said.

“I will continue to support Javelin to keep our soldiers safe and support our families.”

Bright said the Javelin is pertinent for the safety of American troops.
