Edgar Hughes, 86, a lifelong resident of Enterprise, Alabama, died Friday, August 21, 2009 with his loving and devoted wife of 67 years by his side.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, August 24, 2009 from Searcy Funeral Home at 3:00 pm with Rev. Cliff Quincy and Rev. Wayne Locklar officiating.
Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 4 to 6 PM.
Edgar was a proud business man in the community and enjoyed working alongside his Daddy, sons and grandsons in the family business.
He was in the water well drilling business for over 60 years before retiring in 1998 after an illness.
He and his son Jerry owned Edgar and Jerry Hughes Well Drilling of Enterprise. Edgar was preceded in death by his father, John D. Hughes and mother Minnie Bell Hughes; daughter, Sue Ann Carr; one great-grandson, Christopher Carr; one sister, Mary Lou “Polly” Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sarah Locklar Hughes; sons, Jerry Hughes (Yvonne) and Gerald Hughes (Jackie), son-in-law, Carlton Carr; step-mother, Jewel Hughes; grandchildren, Steve Carr, Dewayne Carr (Becky), Phil Hughes (Starla), Wade Hughes, Raymund Hughes (Jeanynne); great-grandchildren, Whitney Carr, Ashley Carr, Lindsey Hughes, Travis Carr, Ross Hughes, Breana Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Bubba Hughes; brothers and sisters, Arthur Hughes, Snooks Hughes, Suzanette Howell, A. D. Hughes, J. R. Hughes, John Bell Hughes, Vonnie Lee, Harrison Hughes, Wendell Hughes, Jessie Johnson.
He is also survived by others who always brought joy to his life, nieces, nephews, too many friends to list and all the children who grew up calling him grandaddy.
