The Pike County Troy University Alumni Association will kickoff the 2009 football season with its annual spaghetti supper at 5:30 p.m. tonight at the Stadium Club and all Trojan fans are invited.

“You don’t have to be a member of the association or a Troy University alumnus to attend,” said Jenniffer Barner, association board member. “If you are a Troy University Trojan fan, we want you there.”

Tickets for the spaghetti supper are $10 per person.

Barner said the spaghetti supper is a fundraiser for the association with the proceeds going to help fund Troy University scholarships to deserving high school seniors in Pike County.

The featured speakers for the event are Trojan offensive coordinator Neal Brown and defensive coordinator Jeremy Rowell. Coach Larry Blakeney will be on hand to meet Trojan fans.

“We’ll also introduce spirit projects for this season including ‘Fly a Flag for Troy,’” Barner said.

“We want to line U.S. Highway 231 from around Murphree Street to Wal-Mart and down George Wallace Drive with Troy University flags,” Barner said. “The flags are $30 each we’ll let those who purchase the flags know which flag is theirs.”

The flags are placed securely and out of reach. The flags will fly throughout the football season and, hopefully, until the bowl season, Barner said.

Faith Ward, an ex officio board member, said Pike County Troy University Alumni Association member dues may be paid at the door. Annual dues are $25 for individuals and $30 for couples.

“We have about 80 members and hopefully we’ll have a lot more because we have a lot of Troy University alumni in Pike County and a lot of Trojan fans,” Ward said.

“There are many opportunities to be actively involved in the association. We’ll have an arts and crafts show from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the lawn at the Alumni House. And, we’ll have several watch parties when the Trojans are playing out of town so alumni and fans can come and enjoy the game together.”

There will be some Troy University raffle items up for grabs at tonight’s spaghetti supper to add to the fun and excitement.

Ward said the 2009-10 Pike County Troy University Alumni Association board is putting forth a lot of effort to involve all association members in every facet of the 2009 Troy Trojans’ football season, as well as all athletics, events and activities at the university.

“We really appreciate the efforts of the board,” she said.

Board members are Jennifer Ventress, president, Jenniffer Barner, Jan Sullivan, Arlene Davis, Dawn Railey, Jan Sullivan, Joe Hutto, Julius Pittman and Mike Amos.
