Charles Henderson and Pike County will have to wait for one more day before the two teams can renew their rivalry on the gridiron.

The game was originally set for Friday night at 7 p.m. within the confines of Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium but was moved to tonight at 7 p.m. due to weather concerns.

“It was just the best thing to do as far as the weather,” said Pike County head coach Eddie Stephenson.

“I know our guys were disappointed, but it was just the best thing in the interests of both the players and the fans.”

“There were a lot of lightning strikes in the area, and the state has a policy where if lightning strikes, you have to wait 30 minutes before you can kick it off.

“So, if there’s a strike at 6 p.m., you can’t kick it off until 6:30. So then, if there’s a strike at 6:20, you can’t kick it off until 6:50.”

“We just didn’t want to get into a quagmire where we were running back and forth to the locker room.”

Waiting another day will undoubtedly be hard for both teams, as anticipation for the rivalry game was at a fever pitch.

“We had a disappointed locker room, and I’m sure there were some disappointed fans as well,” Stephenson said.

“This game means a lot to a lot of folks.”
