Troy Police have arrested four Birmingham-area residents who are alleged to have forged checks in Troy earlier this week.

Covar Kondrashova Jackson, 21 of Bessemer, and Paretha Deshun Marshall, 37, Kimberly Tannett Wilson, 37, and Emma Rose Selina Gardner, 39, all of Birmingham, were arrested earlier this week at a local bank in Troy on several charges of possession of forged instruments second degree, said Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

“They were all in this together,” Scarbrough said.

On Monday, Troy Police received reports that two separate forged checks had been passed on two occasions at a local bank.

On Tuesday, police were notified a customer at that same bank had a check that appeared to be similar to the other two.

“Police arrived on the scene and spoke to the complainant, and then two females were leaving when he confronted them at the door,” Scarbrough said.

In the meantime, Scarbrough said another officer arrived on scene and stopped two more individuals who were in a vehicle attempting to exit in the rear parking lot in a black Chevrolet Malibu.

In addition to the three checks at the bank, Scarbrough said officers found several others the suspects had written all to local businesses that had not been cashed.

“They had them in their possession but had not had an opportunity to cash them at this point,” Scarbrough said.

The checks ranged in amounts from $1,500 to $3,000. Scarbrough said he would not say how many checks there were, but collectively, there were 36 warrants signed for the forged instruments charges, which are felonies. Of those, Jackson faces eight possessions of forged instrument second-degree charges, Marshall, 10, Wilson, 10, and Gardner, eight. In addition, Marshall and Wilson also face misdemeanor charges of giving a false name to police officers.

Scarbrough said it is believed the suspects may be connected with similar incidents in other charges.

“We feel like this is in connection with instances occurring in other jurisdictions between Birmingham and Troy,” Scarbrough said.

“We are at this time talking with other law enforcement agencies with similar instances to occur.”

The suspects were taken to the Pike County Jail, where they face $2,500 bond for each charge.
