With the expansion of the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library underway to include a 3,100-square-foot addition, there soon will be space for reading materials, computers and other library items that were not available before.

Jean Carroll, head librarian, said plans are to hang area-specific artwork at several locations in the original library building.

“We have an area that would be a good place to display artwork, and we hope to be able to do that,” she said.

The library has several oil paintings of the town’s cotton gins and ice plant by Birmingham artist, Maurice Cook, and a carved walking cane by the late Knox Ryals of Brundidge.

Brundidge artist, Larry Godwin, has donated a collection of numbered and signed prints to the library.

The prints include a pen and ink drawing of the old Salem Baptist Church, a portrait sketch of O’Neil “Bogum” Senn, a drawing of “Old Peg” complete with a story line and a sketch of the Farmers’ Rebellion in Dothan.

“Larry donated these prints, and we have them for sale,” Carroll said.

“They are $10 each, and the money that we raise will be used for a specific purpose once the addition and other work on our library building is complete.”

Carroll expressed appreciation to Godwin for his generous donation and his interest in the library and the community.

The prints are available at the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library but interest should be such that they will not last long.
