Edna Brunson

Edna Allen Brunson, of Elba, Alabama, died Tuesday morning, August 4, 2009, at Medical Center Enterprise following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at Covenant Community Church in Elba on Thursday, August 6, at 11:00 AM following a private burial. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Covenant Community Church in Elba.
Mrs. Brunson was born October 5, 1927, in Pike County, Alabama, to the late William Edward and Willie Belle Gibson Allen. She was a 1945 graduate of Troy High School and earned a B.S. degree in Education from Troy State Teachers College. She married Jack Rushing Brunson of Elba in December 1949. She and their daughter, Barbara, were stricken with polio in 1953 and Mrs. Brunson was recognized as Alabama’s “Polio Mother of the Year.” After a brief career as a school teacher, she became a homemaker, and later taught lessons in heirloom and French hand sewing at The Lace Place, a fabric and lace shop in her home.
Survivors include: Daughter-Barbara Allen Brunson (Sydney Smith) of Birmingham, AL; Son-Jack Edward Brunson (Jane) of Elba, AL; Daughter-in-law-Janie Palmer Brunson Hazlewood (Terry) of Tulsa, OK; Sister-Imogene Allen Pinckard of Troy, AL; Brother-Dr. William D. Allen of Troy, AL; Grandson-Jack Rushing Brunson II of Helena, AL; Granddaughter-Ella Blake Brunson of Elba, AL; Granddaughter-Meredith Allen Brunson of Elba, AL; Granddaughter-Mary Ballard Brunson of Tulsa, OK; and Grandson-Edward Franklin Brunson of Elba, AL. Mrs. Brunson was preceded in death by her husband and a son, William Barry Brunson.
