East Limestone defeated the West 49ers 18-11 on the final day of the Alabama American Legion Junior State Tournament, securing a berth in Monday’s championship at 11 a.m. against North Limestone.

“It’s just a relief to win and be able to know we’ll play tomorrow,” said East Limestone head coach Earl Glaze.

East Limestone never trailed in the game and used its potent offensive attack to pick up the win.

“Our bats came alive today,” Glaze said. “We sure pounded the ball.”

Samuel Medley led East Limestone on offense, going 2-3 with four RBIs.

Brett Mansfield was 5-5 with two RBIs, while leadoff man Hunter Reece went 4-6 with an RBI.

Despite the win and berth in Monday’s championship game, Glaze was not pleased with his team’s effort in the field.

“We just need to cut down on our errors,” Glaze said. “We had six errors today and you won’t win a close game with six errors.”

East Limestone will now have to prepare for North Limestone, a team that it is very familiar with.

“We’ve played them a few times, so we just have to be sure to keep our focus and play our best baseball,” Glaze said.

East Limestone will give the ball to Medley on the mound tomorrow. Medley pitched a complete game two-hitter in the tournament opener.

“He’s been solid for us all year,” Glaze said.

First pitch for Monday’s championship game is set for 11 a.m.
