The road resurfacing set to begin Wednesday on Alabama Highway 87 was delayed because of the week’s rainy weather.

“The contractor was delayed because of the weather, ,” said ALDOT Project Manager Sam Lewis.

But, the project should be underway by today, Lewis said.

The resurfacing project will span a little less than a mile south of State Route 167 to just south of County Road 3304. Around 5 miles of the state road will be under construction for the next 45 days.

“We will be starting at the north end of highway 87 and work our way south,” Lewis said.

The roadwork may cause some delays to both northbound and southbound travelers.

“We may have to slow travelers down as we are working, but we will try to make the delays as short as possible,” Lewis said.

The resurfacing project is needed as routine upkeep because the road surface was deteriorating.

“We are doing this for everyone,” Lewis said. “It’s for the safety of the traveling public.”

The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing the state road Friday.
