More bang for your buck

While city officials warn against dangerous firework use, many residents have traditionally had their own fireworks displays.

But, in tight economic times, it may not seem as possible to kick-off the holiday with a bang.

For those who don’t want to spend their own money — or those that live in the city limits — the city of Troy will hold a fireworks show Saturday night with no admission fee.

However, Michele Pearce, manager of Crazy Bills Fireworks store in Troy, said it is possible to get a big bang for a small buck.

Crazy Bills Fireworks and JRs Fireworks are the only local stores, so there are few options when shopping locally. But, there is plenty to choose from, Pearce said.

Crazy Bills offers a large array of different fireworks, ranging from bottle rockets and fountains to aerial artillery and firecrackers.

Pearce said the most economical choice is purchasing one of the stores party packs, which range in price from $24 to $180. JRs, located on Henderson Highway, offers a wider-price range of items, ranging from $19 to $400.

“Our top items are the variety packs. They offer a lot of items at a reasonable price,” Pearce said.

The variety packs have several items of different nature. Some packs contain only aerial fireworks, while others are “party packs” that have a larger variety.

“Party Time has around 20 items. It is a mixture of just about everything,” Pearce said.

The “Party Time” pack contains novelty items like sparklers and firecrackers and a few aerial fireworks, as well.

“Because the customer buys a large mixture of items in a single pack, they end up saving money,” Pearce said.

Crazy Bills also has a large variety of individual fireworks for sell.

“We have everything from layered cake fireworks that set off a single show by themselves and bottle rockets,” Pearce said. “We also offer individual artillery tubes, firework shells and much more.”
