The tournament season has been running smoothly in the Troy area and it does not seem like we have the madness that happened last year here in Troy.

The whole Enterprise fiasco last year put a sour note on the tournaments here in Troy, but this year the Troy Parks and Recreation Department has not had to deal with any madness like that.

It has been a fun week of baseball and softball in the Troy area and the weekend involved every Troy team hosting a tournament to defend the home turf.

The Belles absolutely put on a hitting and pitching show with complete domination of the competition all week.

It never seemed like Troy’s Belles were in trouble all week and it should be interesting to see how the team fares at the district tournament this weekend. They will be facing off with Elba and Elba will have a wrecking ball to deal with.

The Belles did not even allow 10 hits all sub-district tournament and outscored their opponents 45-0 in three games en route to the first place trophy.

Across the way the Ozone Rookies from Troy pulled out a comeback victory in the championship game to knock off Eufaula and grab the title. Every game on that field had a lot of scoring and Troy did not disappoint the home fans with a 10-7 win in the title game.

They ended the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record and a first place trophy for the Recreation Center trophy case.

The third and last team to compete in Troy was the Pre-Minor squad. They were not even playing for a tournament win. They were playing to make a huge donation to the Troy Miracle Field fund.

They may not have been playing for a tournament championship, but Troy won the tournament Tuesday night with a 17-9 win over Eufaula. It was great to see the looks on the boys’ faces as they walked away winners. But knowing that they raised a ton of money for a good cause was the better feeling for sure.

The group raised at a minimum $375 from the businesses who will donate $1 per hit in the tournament. It is so great to know that this team played for more than the glory of winning. They played to help out their fellow baseball players.

Now this team will take a breather for about a week and then focus on bringing in more money for the Miracle Field when they head to the state tournament July 17-21 in Athens.

I would love to say good luck to this team in their fund-raiser for Miracle Field.
