One more Miracle to go

The Troy Pre-Minor squad compiled 27 more hits for the Troy Miracle Field fund and made the championship game with a 15-2 win over Luverne Tuesday night at the Troy Sportsplex.

But the victory and the berth in the championship game was not the most important aspect of the win for Troy head coach Frank Scarbrough.

“A couple of the kids asked me today if they can be buddies and help field the ball or push the wheelchairs for the Troy Miracle Field when it is built,” Scarbrough said. “I could care less about a trophy when I have some of the boys tell me that. When they say something like that then you really know that you have gotten through and they understand what we are doing and our job as parents and coaches has been achieved.”

Scarbrough challenged his team before the tournament began to play for the Miracle Field and for every hit the boys collect money is going towards the effort to make a Miracle Field in Troy a reality.

Scarbrough said it is amazing to listen to a bunch of 8 year olds talk about the Miracle Field.

“They all know they are blessed with abilities that not every child has,” he said. “And I tell them all the time that it does not matter whether we win or lose tomorrow because there are no losers on this team.”

Troy will have two games to win the championship since the team they are playing, Eufaula, is coming out of the loser’s bracket and has one loss.

“We will do our best to represent Troy,” Scarbrough said.

In Tuesday’s game De’Quavian Toney scored three runs. Tristen Carter, Laterius Brantley and Cody Hollis each scored two runs and Noah Phillips, Daniel Phillips, Brock Huner, Jackson Giles, Laswon Scarbrough and Noah Lowery each scored one run.

Troy faces Eufaula at 6 p.m. today for the championship with the if necessary game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Eufaula knocked the Greenville Nationals out of the tournament with an 18-3 win in the early game.
