The Meeksville Youth Club and the Scott and Green families will hold the 15th annual Meeksville Harmony Park Youth Awareness Day from 9 a.m. to mid-afternoon on Saturday, June 20 and the community is invited.

“The Scott and Green families started the community cookouts, and they still prepare the food and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day,” said Rose Ann Bean, coordinator of the Meeksville Volunteer Fire Department Youth Club. “We’ve invited a lot of people that are considered community helpers and role models for our young people.

“This year we’ll have representatives from the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and the Troy Police Department. We’ll have Mrs. Elizabeth Grubbs from the board of education and several teachers. Haynes Ambulance will be here and Pike County Fire and Rescue. We’ve invited Commissioner Homer Wright, the Shriners and radio personalities from WTBF and Hallelujah 104.3.”

All the agency representatives will have an opportunity to speak to the young people between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon.

“They will talk to the youth about the dangers of alcohol and drugs, the importance of staying in school and other issues of interest to young people,” Bean said. “At noon, everyone will be invited to join us for lunch and, in the afternoon, we’ll have games and different kinds of activities. We invite everyone to join us, and we especially want our young people to come out and hear what our speakers have to say.”

The Meeksville Youth Club sponsors other community events including talent shows and singings and they also participate in charitable events.
