TROY, Ala. — Garth William “Big Bill” Cline, 73, died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, in his residence.
He was born in Hartford City, IN, to the late Newton and Clara (Cheney) Cline and was a former resident of Matthews, IN and Gas City, IN. Bill moved to Alabama in 1997.
He was a 1954 graduate of Hartford City High School, Hartford City, IN. He married Judy Lynn Sloat on April 1, 1966. She survives.
Bill retired from RCA, Marion, IN, in 1997 after 43 years as an electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He worked in yard maintenance and R.V. parking at Deer Run R.V. Park, Troy, AL, from 1999 to 2004. He was a National Guard Veteran. He was a member of God’s Way Baptist Church, Troy, Alabama, and a former member of Blackford Baptist Church, Hartford City, IN. In his younger years, Bill enjoyed golf, bowling and fast pitch softball.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; sons, William (Kimberly) Cline, Abilene, Texas, and Ronald Lennon, Nevada; daughter, Connie (John) Beard, Millbrook, AL.; grandsons, Travis, Zachary and Joshua Cline; granddaughters, Felicia Beard and Sarah Cline; and brother, Robert (Carol) Cline, Muncie, IN.
Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN with Pastor Larry Harvey officiating. Burial was in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at God’s Way Baptist Church, 1100 Elba Highway, Troy, AL 36079.
