Residents have seen construction on Troy’s new Courtyard Marriott for nearly a year.

But after next week, the hotel will be ready to open its doors for business.

The Courtyard Marriott will bring more than 35 jobs to the area and also 90 rooms for county visitors.

But, this hotel will offer more than just a room for a weary traveler.

“Courtyard has been studying the modern day traveler, and they have found out that the traveler now is no longer the road warrior of old,” said Chief Operating Officer Samuel Benton III, of Larry Blumberg and Associates Properties, which is the management corporation for the Marriott.

The “road warrior” was once considered someone that would spend most of his or her time traveling, only to check into a hotel and go straight to a room, Benton Said.

“Things have changed, and now even if a traveler is not with someone, they would like to be around others,” Benton said. “So the lobby is designed to attract people to it.”

The lobby offers travelers wireless Internet, electric outlets, a fully-stocked bar and Starbucks coffee—all in what Benton said is a comfortable stylish area.

“The lobby was built around the needs of the traveler,” Benton said.

On one side of the lobby sits a “Go Board,” a machine that has scrolling news and weather and can look up locations of restaurants and theatres and also has the ability to show flight information.

“The Go Board is just like a modern day concierge service,” Benton said.

Besides offering a wide array of drinks and comfortable settings, the kitchen, also known as the Bistro, is fully stocked and ready to prepare a wide range of food.

The hotel offers its guests a wide range of different food, from a child’s menu with kids burgers and grilled cheese to appetizers such as nachos and buffalo wings.

Travelers also have a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, pizzas and ribs.

The guests can also choose from different wines or mixed drinks and cocktails.

The Courtyard Marriott has also gone one step further and provides the guests with a market.

The market is open all the time and offers anything from a mid-night snack to toiletries.

There is also a lounge with a 52” TV and a business library.

Also for the business traveler that may need access to a workstation, the hotel has provided three fully-stocked workstations, with computers, printers and copying machines.

The hotel also caters to more than the overnight guest.

The business has a catering service and two meeting rooms available to rent for events.

“We are readily available for the transit traveler, and feel as though we can be a local getaway for Pike County residents,” said Dawn Railey, director of sales.

The Courtyard Marriott will hold its grand opening June 18, where Larry Blumberg and Associates Properties will present checks to two charities in Pike County.
