Republican women are joining together throughout the country to lend their strength to the development of political leaders for the future.

The recent organization of the Pike County Republican Women will provide a forum for local women who believe that women are a powerful force for change in the 21st century, said Nell Haigh, organization president.

“Our mission is to be an official auxiliary to the duly constituted Republican organization in the State of Alabama and to support the objectives and policies of the Republican national, state and county executive committees and to work for the election of the Republican party’s nominees,” Haigh said.

“Also included in this mission will be to promote an informed electorate through political education. Active participation by women in our county increases their effectiveness in the cause of good government.”

Areas that will be served by Pike County Republican Women include public education, legislative issues and Americanism.

Assisting with local support and encouragement of the nation’s men and women in uniform, school children and the campaign activity of Republican candidates are some of the projects that are planned for Pike County Republican Women.

“We believe that, with freedom, comes responsibility and that individual initiative is imperative for the preservation of our freedom,” Haigh said. “The women of Pike County have an opportunity to join together and effectively work toward the future of our communities and ultimately speak with a loud voice for conservative values.”

Those who are interested in becoming members of Pike County Republican Women or just want to know more about the organization are invited to attend the organization’s luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, at 115 West Church Street in Troy.
