Bo Weed needed only three words to describe his feelings after his kneecap was shattered in a fall Saturday morning.

“God is good,” said ‘Brother Bo,’ pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Troy.

During a “house raising,” Weed was pushed from the top of a wall, while the volunteer work crew was attempting to set the trusses.

“Four trusses were hooked together, and I got pushed a little bit and a little more until there was nowhere to go,” Weed said. “The wall got me. The trusses got me, and then I hit the floor. My top teeth bit through my bottom lip. I broke some ribs and shattered my kneecap in four places. Dr. (Darrell) Potter performed the surgery, and he assured me that I’ll still be able to go on the mission trip. God is good, and life is good. This could have been a whole lot worse. A whole lot worse.”

The house that was being built was “a way God gave us” to raise money for a month-long mission trip to Honduras, which will be led by Weed.

“What I’ll be doing on the trip is teaching and preaching – evangelism – the knee injury won’t interfere with that,” Weed said. “I’ll just be on crutches. That will be the only difference.”

Weed said he is not letting the accident dampen his spirits. He just views the knee injury as an obstacle to overcome.

“And the victory will be God’s,” he said. “He is still in control.”

Weed is confident that the mission work in Honduras is what God wants him and the mission teams to do.

“My daughter, Tabitha, and I will be in Honduras for the entire trip, July 1 through July 31,” he said. “Two mission teams will come at different times and their missions will be different. One team’s mission will be to construct Sunday school rooms and benches at Lepaera. Three of the ladies will do some medical work in a clinic in Gracias.”

Tabitha Weed and a friend will work in the children’s ministry. One team includes members of Goodhope Baptist Church and will work primarily with the children’s ministry.

Other members of the mission team to Honduras are from Baptist churches in Headland, Ashford and Dothan and from North Alabama.

Weed said the accident was just a part of life and so will be the overcoming of it.

“I’m still going to Honduras. I’m just going on crutches,” he said. “God made a way for us to raise money for the trip, and he will be with us as we go.”

Weed will be dismissed from Medical Center Enterprise today and will continue to recover at home. He said he thanks everyone for their prayers and their concern.
