Free coupon booklets valued at $30 will be distributed June 1 through 5 to seniors for the purchase of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs in Pike County.

The coupons will be distributed at senior centers in Brundidge, Goshen and Troy by the South Central Alabama Development Commission Area Agency on Aging.

Hassie Green, director of the Lillian D. Green Nutrition Center in Troy, said the coupons will be available from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. June 1 through 5 at the Colley Senior Complex at 715 East Elm Street in Troy.

The coupon booklets will be available at the Robert E. Barr Senior Center from noon until 3 p.m. June 2 and 3 at Brundidge Station, 128 North Main Street in Brundidge.

In Goshen, the coupon booklets will be distributed from 9 until 11 a.m. at the Goshen Senior Center, 535 Montgomery Street.

Seniors may signup for the coupons at any of the Pike County nutrition centers.

Green said two criteria must be met in order to receive the coupon booklets.

“There is an age requirement and also an income level requirement,” Green said. “A person must be 60 years of age or older. The household income before taxes are withheld must be less than $18,000 for one person, $24,000 for two people and $30,000 for three people.”

Green said coupons will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“There will be only one booklet issued per person,” she said. “Eligible participants must bring identification such as a driver’s license or birth certificate.”
